Volunteers of America, sometimes...I love you

I got a skein of partially used yarn from what appears to be the 60s-70s...from when Red Heart still manufactured virgin wool...

I don't have a pic of the skein still on the wrapper...but here's the wrapper...
and then I took it off and wrapped it into a hank, measured it...and twisted it into a skein...

and ended up with 112 yards of 100% virgin wool...worsted weight....for .60!

Oh, I love the yarn...oh cheap yarn...you will make beautiful chained mittens...

Thank heaven for cheap yarn

Well, it's been forever...

Since I promised...I finally got around to photographing (badly mind you) my one skein wonder...knit up quickly (minus the picking up a million stitches that I was too silly to evenly mark out and make easier) on Cascade 220...love it...gonna CO another for a friend soon...and have one for my sister 90% finished and sitting on my denise needles right now...

Since finishing the OSW...I started a Tivoli Tee Shirt in some organic cotton from elann.com (love it) but it's been pushed to the side latetly in my recent burst of creative indecision. I don't have a progress pic of the shirt yet, but I'll get one soon for reference...

I'm also working on a modified Branching Out in a strand of cream sport alpaca and baby pink lace alpace...but it's been the bane of my existence lately and i've been systematically casting on and frogging it out...I'm on attempt 7 now I believe...

and then my knitting got interrupted by a sudden burst of excitement about....yes, embroidery...so I did this (my first embroidery attempt) ...

and then...I became obsessed....

And then I decided that I should start making hand-made, hand-embroidered purses and bags....ending up with this...

So I was obssed with those for a few days...and spent $55 of my saved up allowance (shut up) on purse making supplies...thinking that I can make and sell at least a few to cover all costs...but the $55 included a floss organizer and a few stencils and a SEVERE expansion in floss colors...

And then the next day I decided that recycling goodwill sweaters for yarn would be mega fun and bought about 8 sweaters to rip out and recycle (though, my husband snagged one for himself to actually wear :-) and spent the whole evening yesterday tearing about a beautiful Banana Republic sweater that looked fabulous on a hanger but AWFUL on a person lol...This, of course after I made my own Knitty Knoddy...

I managed to get the sweater totally apart...and mostly balled into a manageable chunk...and two hanks measured and wound into skeins on the knitty knoddy...so I've got to finish that tonight...and I bought some ANCIENT red heart virgin wool in rainbow colors from goodwill yesterday with the hopes of making a pair of mittens on a string...so I plan to start those tonight too because they will be easy to take along places...unlike a sweater...

So yea, my conclusion...I think I have craft ADHD or am crafy Manic Depressive...and if you can't tell....this would be a manic phase lol

One Skein Wonder ...

Well, I finally managed to finish up my One Skein Wonder from glampyre last week while on my way to Chicago for a Billy Cogan concert...That is after I frogged out about 2 hours worth of work once I realized that I'd picked up all my stitches on the wrong side of the fabric lol

The lesson I learned from this experience is...Shrugs really aren't meant to be knit from wool...As my itchy armpits can attest...But other than that, I love it...I'm gonna order some more Organic Cotton from Elann and whip up a few more methinks...

This weekend, I whipped up a couch quilt in a frenzy for the bridal shower of a friend...On the morning of the shower...I meant to get it done earlier, but mis-cut the pieces the night before and ruined all my progress so I had to start from scratch 2:00am. I got up early the following morning and managed to finish cutting blocks, stitch it all together and get it ready to go before the shower at 3:00. I ended up really liking the results but in my hurry, forgot to take pictures...so... :-(

On a happy note, I found graphs of Nintendo characters that I'm going to morph into quilt blocks to make the sweetest quilts EVER!!! I'll be certain to take photos of those and post em!
